Dubbed & Dangerous

An odd mixture of pastiche martial artistry and dubious acting, Ara Paiaya's film is nothing if not anbitious. He uses every cliche of the genre, such as slo-mo and mysterious Oriental girls in shades, to tell a story that makes as little sense as a Chinese whisper.

For some reason, possibly as a joke against imported kung-fu product, the voices have been badly dubbed. Paiaya is cocking a snoot at cheaply made Hong Kong fight flicks by producing one of his own in England. Fans will appreciate the subtleties of crass scripting, haphazard continuity and a fake Bruce Lee parody. Others might find the intentional mistakes too soft for satire.
